Our Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) consultants were recently in the Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) installing a new Xcite system. This, their second Xcite, will be based on their Paediatric Ward and will be used with children during their admission. The first device is in the NSIC occupational therapy department.
Xcite is a portable, multi-channel FES therapy system. It is easy to use and has pre-programmed activity libraries that deliver sequenced stimulation through up to 12 stimulation channels. Xcite helps patients perform task specific, strengthening and gross motor activities.
Easily integrates into traditional rehabilitation programs
Commenting on the installation Matt White, Clinical Operations Manager at Cyclone said, “Nothing else on the market compares to Xcite and the individual programs that can be created. This device allows users to work on precise fine motor control and dexterity, while providing Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation.
“The repetitive practise of task specific strengthening has long been the cornerstone of physiotherapy and occupational therapy rehabilitation programs, for patients with neurological impairments or muscle weakness.
“Xcite is designed to be easily integrated into these traditional programs and supports neuromuscular re-education by enhancing active muscle contractions, promoting the completion of fluid, natural movements and providing feedback to the clinician and their patient.”
Can be used at the hospital/clinic or at home
Xcite FES evokes co-ordinated muscle contractions in upper extremity, lower extremity and core muscle groups. It can be used in the hospital/clinic or at home with a wide range of patient indications, providing a continuity of care.
If you would like to find out more about how Xcite could integrate with your hospital or clinic’s rehabilitation programs, please get in touch by completing the form below. We would be happy to come to your site to give you a full demonstration of the product in action.
