19 miles of stunning Welsh scenery with my Batec
This past weekend saw the beginning of Spring and this year’s first trip down to the Mawddach Trail in Wales with my Batec Quad Hybrid & GTM Shock Absorber Wheelchair.
The Mawddac
h Trail footpath walk and cycle route winds for about 9.5 miles along the disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular Mawddach estuary in Southern Snowdonia.
Whilst the trail can be joined at several points the best places to start for Wheelchairs and Batecs is the main Car park in the picturesque market town of Dolgellau or 2 miles along the trail at the stunning George III Hotel at Penmaenpool.
The trail then finishes by either crossing the iconic railway bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth or crossing the railway line at Morffa Mawddach railway station and heading into the quieter resort of Fairbourne.
If you start the trail from Dolgellau you will have to cross 1 quiet road, if you start at Penmaepool then the trail to the bridge at Barmouth is traffic free, however, although the trail is essentially flat, be aware, the exit from Barmouth Bridge to the busy A496 is very steep and joins the road on a blind corner with no footpath.
There are a few bike gates on the trail but most are manageable, however if you cannot manage then there is always someone around to get them for you.
The ride down the trail is spectacular and the harbour at Barmouth or the beach are Fairbourne are well worth the ride.
The day demonstrates the ruggedness and comfort of my Batec Quad Hybrid and ATM shock absorber wheelchair setup and has set me up nicely for more trips during the rest of the year.
